Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to set forth the guidelines that have been agreed upon by majority vote of the Board of Directors of the San Diego Chapter in regards to scholarships that are available to the chapter’s deputy members. The purpose of the Scholarship Fund is to promote the discipline of risk management by encouraging continued education by providing funds for deputy members who do not receive corporate employer financial support. This policy can be changed and or revoked upon majority vote of the Board of Directors at any time. Annual Scholarship Budget: The Chapter will allocate $5,000 per year on a first-come, first-served basis. Maximum funding is $500 per student for classes taken during that year. Who Is Eligible: Any active deputy member in good standing with the chapter whose employer will not pay for educational advancement. ARM Scholarships: To encourage and to support our members that desire the advanced designation of ARM, the chapter will reimburse the full tuition paid by the deputy member after completion of the course. The following procedure will be followed: 1. A deputy member interested in the scholarship will take the appropriate ARM Course #54, 55 or 56. 2. Upon successful completion of the course, the deputy member will submit a Request for Tuition Reimbursement to the chapter, which will include course and exam fee plus any required materials, along with confirmation of passing grade. 3. A statement signed by the deputy member confirming that their employer will not reimburse their costs. 4. There is no reimbursement for travel or other incidental expenses. 5. To ensure the availability of funds, a member can apply for pre-approval pending completion during that year. Other Scholarships: The Scholarship Fund is available for additional educational opportunities to deputy members who have already received their ARM designation. Additional eligible courses are: ARM-P, RIMS FELLOW (RF), CEBS, AIC, CPCU, RSP, CSP, and CIA. Additional courses can be presented to the Board of Directors for pre-authorization, but are not guaranteed. Courses must have a direct relationship to the risk management profession.
