GOAL: The work of the San Diego Chapter is largely carried out by its committees. These committees are the backbone of the Chapter’s efforts and accomplishments. In order to encourage participation by its members on one or more Committees, the Chapter has established a recognition program that is intended to:
Most standing Committees of the San Diego Chapter (with certain exceptions enumerated below) are eligible to be selected as the Committee of the Year. These Eligible Committees are:
The Audit, Community Service, Special Events/Golf, Membership, Seminar, Website committees are not eligible to compete for this award. Neither is the Past President’s Council. The Golf Committee is not eligible to compete because of its unique strategic position within the Chapter, and because of the other benefits and recognition provided by the Chapter to that Committee. The Past Presidents Council is not eligible, as serves as the judging and selecting group for this award, and is not actually a committee of the Chapter per se. The Audit, Community Service, Membership, Seminar and Website committees are all ad hoc committees with a limited brief related to the operations of the chapter per se, and are not standing committees.
In order to qualify as the Committee of the Year, a committee shall:
Each active member of a committee that meets all of the above criteria receives: · A $25 gift certificate good for dinner at a local San Diego restaurant, OR · A $25 gift certificate good at a local movie theater. Each active member of the committee that meets all of the above criteria and is selected as the Committee of the Year receives: · A $75 gift certificate good for dinner at a local San Diego restaurant, PLUS · A $25 gift certificate good for two movie theatre admissions.
The Committee of the Year is selected by a task force prior to the Board’s Annual Planning Retreat (customarily held in January) following the applicable Chapter year. The winner will be confirmed by the Board at the Annual Planning Retreat in January. The winner will be announced and provided with award at the January meeting. Attached are the selection grading sheet for calendar year 2009 and the entry form for the competition. To encourage committee members to meet regularly, the Chapter reimburses each Committee up to $200 per year for meal expenses directly related to committee meetings. Active Member is defined as a member of the Committee who demonstrates a commitment to the goals of the committee as well as participation in a majority of the activities of the committee, and who has contributed to the accomplishments of the committee. Active Members will be designated by the Committee Chair. The submission must be legible, and accompanied by a validly signed submission form (available at the Chapter’s website). The submission should be provided in a format that facilitates copying, without the use of staples or binders (paper or spring clips are acceptable), preferably one sided and without unnecessary color embellishment. If a Committee wishes to provide color materials, or to bind their submission, five (5) copies must be provided to the judges by the Committee. The task force will make all reasonable effort to meet in time to judge the submissions prior to the Annual Board Retreat if possible, and will announce the winner at the January Meeting. The members of the Task Force will be selected from those available who are not actively involved with any of the Committees being judged. The current President may vote ONLY to break a tie in the judging. The Task Force will consist of not less than three, nor more than five members..
