COMMITTEE OF THE YEAR AWARD

GOAL:

The work of the San Diego Chapter is largely carried out by its committees.  These committees are the backbone of the Chapter’s efforts and accomplishments.  In order to encourage participation by its members on one or more Committees, the Chapter has established a recognition program that is intended to:

  • Publicize the work of its Committees within the Chapter; and
  • Provide recognition to all active committee members; and
  • Provide a tangible and visible benefit for Committee service; and
  • Provide a substantive reward to the Active Members of one committee selected as the Chapter’s Committee of the Year

Most standing Committees of the San Diego Chapter (with certain exceptions enumerated below) are eligible to be selected as the Committee of the Year.  These Eligible Committees are:

  • Education
  • Legislative
  • Insurance
  • Workers’ Compensation

The Audit, Community Service, Special Events/Golf, Membership, Seminar, Website committees are not eligible to compete for this award.  Neither is the Past President’s Council.

The Golf Committee is not eligible to compete because of its unique strategic position within the Chapter, and because of the other benefits and recognition provided by the Chapter to that Committee.  The Past Presidents Council is not eligible, as serves as the judging and selecting group for this award, and is not actually a committee of the Chapter per se.  The Audit, Community Service, Membership, Seminar and Website committees are all ad hoc committees with a limited brief related to the operations of the chapter per se, and are not standing committees.

Active Member is defined as a member of the Committee who demonstrates a commitment to the goals of the committee as well as participation in a majority of the activities of the committee, and who has contributed to the accomplishments of the committee.  Active Members will be designated by the Committee Chair.

SUBMISSION:

The submission must be legible, and accompanied by a validly signed submission form (available at the Chapter’s website).  The submission should be provided in a format that facilitates copying, without the use of staples or binders (paper or spring clips are acceptable), preferably one sided and without unnecessary color embellishment.  If a Committee wishes to provide color materials, or to bind their submission, five (5) copies must be provided to the judges by the Committee.   The task force will make all reasonable effort to meet in time to judge the submissions prior to the Annual Board Retreat if possible, and will announce the winner at the January Meeting.
